Market at the W Hotel
Boston has entered the land of the hip and trendy and finally has a W Hotel. Of course, this news totally passed Andreas and me by. I saw it back in November when I saw the Pixies concert at the Wang Center. It was a total surprise to see this enormous building where a parking lot used to be. All of the young kids were heading to the bar for a fancy cocktail. I was heading home. It was almost 10:30pm!
Then I read a review of the new restaurant, Market. It’s a restaurant created by Jean-Georges. It was a great review, and I really was interested in trying it out. As I’ve mentioned before, it’s know much easier for us to go out for lunch with baby in tow, and hotel restaurants are especially accomodating.
Yesterday was a really nice day, weather wise. Around 40 degrees and sunny. So we packed up Kat and headed into town. We really hadn’t given much thought as to where we would go for lunch, but we were parked near the hotel and decided to check it out. The hotel itself is beautiful – very chic and modern and very different for the Boston landscape. The restaurant was not very busy, so we decided to give it a try. The lunch/brunch menu was quite nice, with a nice selection of sandwiches, pizzas and more expensive entrees. They had a great beer menu with all local breweries.
I chose the clam chowder and a grilled chicken sandwich with chipolte mayonaisse. Andreas chose the butternut squash soup and the tuna burger. Our server was lovely and the service overall was impeccable. Someone came around with fresh bread and butter, and our soups were presented nicely. My chowder was delicious. It was packed with whole clams, diced potatoes, and smoky bacon. Andreas loved his soup as well. Our sandwiches were fantastic. Mine was on served on a roll with sliced cucumbers, avocado, and tomatoes, with a wonderfully spicy mayo. Andreas’s sandwich was something to behold. Ground tuna seared on the outside and raw on the inside with a delicious asian flavor. We actually decided to each have one half of the sandwiches. It was a great way to enjoy the different dishes.
All in all we totally enjoyed the restaurant and the W Hotel experience. Maybe one day we’ll actually make it to dinner!

i went there for brunch this morning and got the french toast with sauteed apples and bacon. the french toast was thick, crispy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside, and coated in cinnamon sugar. heavenly. and they give you your own mini bottle of pure maple syrup. precious.
